Small but Sweet, 1st of May Square
Small but sweet, and dressed in white marble – the 1st of May Square doesn’t dissapoint. In fact, it’s a great resting place where you can sit down and have a break from exploring Piran. By resting there you’re also only a few steps away from every other attraction in the town. Attractions like the Tartini Square, local chocolate store, the coastline and the Parish church of Saint George.
In the middle of the square however, lies a stone reservoir where rain water collects. It was build in the 18th century, for the reason of collecting water since back then, there was a period of severe drought. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the houses surrounding the 1st of May square are connected to this stone reservoir. Right next to the reservoir is also a large pump which is still greatly preserved to this day, and let us not forget about the two gorgeous statues that mark the entrance to the small marble platform in the middle of the square, one represents justice, and the other law.
Be sure to visit the classic Piran attarction this summer!
